I woke up at 3:45 in the morning to catch the sunrise from above the first headwall on the Putvin trail. Mount Pershing shone with a red glow as the sun rose and the view to the east was beautiful. I arrived at the Lake of the Angels at 6:45 in the morning and then climbed up on the ridge above the lake towards Mount Stone. I decided on crossing the valley beneath the west face of Mount Stone. So, I climbed down an old creek, slid down a snowfield and crossed an avalanche scree slope. I then made my way up on a ridge on Mount Hopper to a spot where I could look down on Hagen Lake. It was quite the view with Mounts Skokomish, Constance, Duckabush, Steel and Pershing as a backdrop. Even Crystal and Chimney peak showed their summits. I then hiked back and climbed the cliff to the ridge above lake of the Angels. In all I did about 11 miles, 4 of it cross country and it was a blast! God's creation is sooo awesome!
