Seven members of Boy Scout Troop 171 in Spokane, WA scaled Hall Mountain on a rainy Saturday. We encountered patches of snow along the Noisy Creek Trail at elevation 4,100 feet, and had to melt snow for the climb up the slope. Where the Noisy Creek Trail meets the Hall Mountain (ridge) Trail 540, we were socked in the clouds. After 5-1/4 hours of climbing, we made it and took some quick group photos before setting up camp 200 feet below the summit in a small meadow.
The clouds broke up a bit on Saturday evening to reveal glimpses of Sullivan Lake far below to the west, and momentary views of the Kettle Crest and the Pend Oreille River Valley to the west.
On Sunday morning, bright sunshine helped disperse the low clouds out of the valleys, and we re-climbed the summit to take in views of nearby Molybdenite Mountain to the south, Sullivan Mountain (with its lookout tower) to the north, and the Salmo-Priest Wilderness to the northeast.
We didn't see any Bighorn Sheep on this trip, but we could see well-worn tracks in the meadows. We found two deer antlers (a 15-pointer) right by the trail near the summit.
