SummitPost - San Jacinto via Catus to Clouds trail -- Trip Reports

12 energetic mountaineers from the Sierra Club climbed Mt San Jacinto from Palm Springs in 12 hours via the Cactus to Clouds trail.. We started at midnight, reached the peak at noon in very strong winds and were back at the tram station at 3pm. I was grateful for a full moon till 3am. I recommend a very early start in order not to get roasted by the sun.It was still dark when we reached flat rock at 5.30 am in the dark. A very satisfying trip which I will repeat on Oct 22 with the Outdoorsclub leaving the museum at 4 am. It was 10,500 ft of elevation gain in 16 miles and 5 more back to the Tram.
