This is a five mile trail gaining approximatley 2142 vertical feet with great views of the Black Hills, the back side of Mt Rushmore, and awsome side trips to Elkhorn Mountain. Despite it being December, there was very little snow on the trail and it was mostly dry. We had the trail to ourselves, unless you count the mountain goats and deer. Once on top, there were about a dozen people, but due to the wind, not many were staying long. If you are looking for the less traveled trail, this is the one. The Willow Creek Trailhead is located on SD Hwy 244 west of Mt Rushmore.
