Mt. Si December 7th, very little trail activity. Started hike at 10:00 AM slight patchy snow at parking lot. At about 1.5 miles up on the trail, hard snow and ice cover entire path. Ice conditions continue for about 0.5 to 1 mile on trail. The hike was do-able without crampons, but for those less experienced they may be a good idea, especially coming down the trail, as there was no snow areas to step on, just ice. Once you pass the mid section of Si, the upper portion of the hike is somewhat pleasant. From about 2.25 miles on up to the summit, ice on the trail disipates and you have nice compact snow to travel on. Trail is very distinct and no post-holing to deal with. Very windy and cold that day at the summit, and the haystack was snow and ice covered. My water bottles started freezing inside. No major dangers to deal with, unless doing the scramble up the haystack. Overall hike took longer than average due to ice on path from about 1.5 miles up, through snag flats, and up a little past the 2 mile marker point.
