Pissis trip report

myself and two partners, climbed pissis in Feb of 06. We hired a Spanish guide by the name of Pako de Miquel. Excellent guide. We spent 4 to 5 days in Chile in the Ojos de Salado region getting aclimatized. Then drove to Fambiola re-supplied and headed to pissis. It had rained some and the road of the main highway was quite bad. There was a permanent base camp at pissis, with a nice expedition tent and a generator. We stayed there a day and then headed to camp 1, spent two days and camp 1, then off to camp 2. From camp 2 we headed to summit leaving at 2 am, my two partners and Paco summited, I had to turn around at 6445M. It was a great trip. The road to pissis is a little hairy. The outfitter we used was the same fellow who owns the Ojos concession, they are definitely pros and hooked us up with a great guide, provided tents etc. We met Jonson in Fambiola, seemed like an excellent outfitter as well. The route is not technical, just high and hard, given the long ascent on summit day. We spent some time looking for Neil Tucker but had no luck. This was a great adventure!! Photos by Pako and Don.

Tips

Fambiola has an ATM and a phone store where you can make cheap long distance calls.
