Mt. UnionMt. Union was my 200th County Highpoint. I hiked this with Bill on November 17, 2006. I took the easy approach and drove my car to within ¾ of a mile of the summit.
From Prescott I found Mount Vernon Avenue off the main drag of Gurley and headed south out of town. Mount Vernon turns into Old Senator Road and also changes from paved to a gravel road. Stay on this main road heading generally south and up. At a cattle guard turn left onto road 261 and follow this to a “Y” intersection. 261 continues to the right and 261A goes to the left. Stop and park here. 261A is gated a short way up the road.
There is a sign at this intersection indicating that Mt. Union is 1.0 mile up the road. It is only about .7 mile to the summit with a gain of about 350ft. Bill and I made short work of this hike and were back at the car in about .5 hour. It was a beautiful day and this is one of the easiest highpoints of all the counties of Arizona. I dropped off Bill and headed for Mohave County and Hualapai Peak for one more county before heading back to Oregon.
