Overview

Turquoise Mountain is a desert peak that rises to the northeast of the highway stop of Baker. I first learned of this peak over 15 years ago when looking through Walt Wheelock's classic Desert Peaks Guide. In that book there is a picture of the tower covered summit of Turquoise from the road. Turquoise Mountain is mostly known for it's turquoise quarries.

I was able to visit the peak on a recent trip to Las Vegas for a crappy convention and some great air wreck chasing in Death Valley. Turquoise Mountain is located about 13 miles east of Baker. Take the Halloran offramp and turn north towards the peak on good road. It is about eight miles to the summit gates. This peak has incredible views of the central Mojave.
