A Photo Trip Report

Glacier National Park is the most beautiful place in the U.S. I know some will disagree, and I respect their views, but I stand by what I've said.

The images here are my favorites from my climbs in July 2008.

Your statement that "Glacier National Park is the most beautiful place in the U.S." is not something I would argue.

It reminds me that I once heard an Englishman say, "Overall, France is the most beautiful country on earth. So, in order to even things out, god filled it with the French." Following such logic, one could assume that's the reason there are so many tourists in Glacier, to even things out.

Mike, that joke brightened my day. Thanks.

Fortunately, there are places like the Rocky Mountain Front, the Gros Ventres and the Absarokas, the Wyoming Range, and the Bitterroots where one can get lost (hopefully not literally) in a wilderness sea of mountains. They might not be quite as breathtaking as Glacier, but they do all right.

My wife and I backpacked across the US in '04. After everything, Glacier was our favorite place. What struck me were the contrasts - your pictures reflect the rocky and desolate high places, but as you know, the lush and vibrant beauty of the valleys are the perfect balance. Have enjoyed all of your articles on GNP, thanks.

Thanks, Brian! I am glad you loved Glacier so much. And yes, those valleys, and the steep green mountainsides with the cascades tumbling down them, are part of the magic as well.
