Description:

The Gross Fiescherhorn 4049m is located in a big glacier world. Around the Gross Fiescherhorn it has large and copious glaciers. These are the glaciers „Ewigschneefeld“ - „Walliser Fiescherfirn“ - „Fieschergletscher“ and „Obers Ischmeer“. A impressive ice landscape, it reminds of the Antarctic. These glaciers constitute also the difficulty, that crevasses at the Gross Fiescherhorn are enormous and deep.

Our ascent:

We are started in the Finsteraarhorn hut 3048m. Over the long and flat glacier “Walliser Fiescherfirn” we go northwestwards to a steep slope. There one must cross big ice cubes and seracs, and go carefully over deep crevasses. Afterwards one comes to a flat plateau, the Fiescher plateau. Now it goes to the Fieschersattel 3923m. Then begins a short rock ridge, the southeast ridge of Gross Fiescherhorn 4049m. The climbing difficulty level of the ridge is UIAA II, time requirement about 30-45 minutes from the Fieschersattel. Descent on the same route, back to the Finsteraarhorn hut 3048m
