On the way up

I started early (8:30) because the day was supposed to get hot. It was pretty overcast the whole hike so no problems.

Some numbers
Trail head ( Four-way) 0
Collapsed tunnel 25 min
Trail to St. Mary's falls 1:10
I took about a ten minute break when I got to the high point of trail.
I crossed the creek just past where there is a closed trail back to the falls. 1:50

Summit 2:25

The bushwack was really enjoyable. After crossing the stream I followed another stream that came from a saddle to the South for about 100 yards. I was going to hike up to the saddle but instead hiked staight up to the summit. The forest was great and the pitch may have hit 45 degrees for a while, but no problem. I don't think I got as far south as ctfbq because I was in the forest the whole time and never even saw another option

At the summit

Summit block

I spent a good 45 minutes on the Summit. There were nine signatures on the summit log for 2009.
Someone put in an obituary for Edward "Eddie" Anthony Murphy who died near the peak in 2008. He was an avid outdoorsman.

Some notable signings:
Chris McGranahan 4-08-06
Jennifer and Gerry Roach 1-23-2005
Mike Garret put in the register on 12-7-2002

Descent

Cookstove from Gold Camp Trail

The descent was was pretty easy I ended up hitting the St. Mary's trail at exactly the same point I left it. I was pleased with my dead reconning skill. Before I reached the main creek there was a faint trail along the side creek. It wasn't any more useful than bushwacking.

On the way down I took a side trail that said Gold Camp trail .3 miles. I should have checked my Ormes map because it added at least half a mile to my hike. I get on Gold Camp trail enough that I didn't need more time today.

Summit to Car 2 hours.
