A photo TR of our Northwest Face jaunt. We did what looks like a ">" in the photo, the Northwest Ramp I believe.

Pellucidwombat's great photo of the NW Face. The following pics are of our jaunt up this face. We were mainly just doing an exploratory jaunt, and, after a close call, decided to do a more conservative route. I believe the route we did is considered the Northwest Ramp and forms the ">" arrow in the central part of the face in this photo of the Pfeiff. A beautiful day in the mountains and a good day to be alive. What a sweet hobby we have.

Wasatchvoyage took this sweet photo that shows the nature of the Ramp route, and of the face as a whole. Beautiful Pic!

Sarah and the Pfeiff's west side from Small Pass

A brief stop for some Raspberries in Hogum.

The view of the West face from the appraoch. Our route followed the righthand edge of the bouldery ramp beneath a nob on the righhand horizen.

Sarah approaching the main gulley. The Obelisk is in the background.

The fun begins

The view down the initial ramp. Steep and slighty chossy Class 3

Sarah loving the alpine feel of the West Face. Especially after surviving a nearly deadly slip on some Class4/5. Sweet Hobby we have.

Sarah at the top of the ramp, is at the point of the ">" in the 1st photo of this report. She belays me up the one technical pitch of our route. Unseen is the clean face with a lone sweet (5.6ish) crack that leads to the upper ridge (see where the rope initially disappears from view). To the left is the NW Couloir.

Sarah, at the top of the technical section, enjoys the views back behind her into the NW couloir. This is the ridge that is adjacent to the upper NW Couloir (below and behind).

Sarah heading up the final ridge that splits the West face (L) and the NW Couloir (R). She unroped right after this photo, because this is actually just Class 3.

Here, we wrap up the climb by traversing the top of the NW Couloir. The summit is in the background, a minute away.

Some more overview pics:

Our route (which I believe is the Northwest Ramp) is the snowy ledge coming in from the middle left on this photo.

maraudersNice exploratory route.

That NW face looks so good from the North Thunder Mountain perspective. It's good to see some hands-on observations. I love the photo with Sara giving a thumbs-up after her slip. Glad you guys got down safe.

Thanks Matt. It is a great place indeed. I'm glad I could take a post-slip picture of Sarah, AND, I'm glad you like it. Thanks for the kind words!

Hey, Are those your photos at REI?

PellucidWombatI'd wondered about that

as a potential route. I was really eyeballing it when I was on the North Ridge a few years ago. Thanks for checking it out and making such a nice report!

Yeah man. Although that side is just as chossy as the rest, you did guess right about the potential of routes over there. I appreciate the note from such a Wasatchman as yourself. Thx.
