| From this peak if you haul up enough water you can watch it run in 3 directions toward 3 oceans. That makes this one worth the effort, but what makes it more so is the fun mostly class 4 adventure of steps about 5 feet each requiring never more than some bouldering moves, but always with exposure. From Triple Divide Pass. Some iceberg filled lakes glisten below and Split Mountain's monstrous potential looms and taunts too. The best views were up the route, making your adventure look like death defiance. I left some gawkers below who wouldn't have tried this for all the money offered on a reality TV contest and thought I was nuts to solo it. Fine exercise. Combined in a day with Mt James and was going to camp near the pass with special permit but the rangers were way off on where water would be and bears wouldn't, so I decided to be smart and tote the heavy load back out all in one day. | |

| Solo (as in alone) - East Face up and down. Snow took away the option of descending the "little scree slope" - it was a steep couloir with a still overhanging cornice at the top (in late July!). | |

| Opted for the class III route through a break in the Continental Divide a ways south of the peak. Enjoyable, easy route. Considered entertaining the idea of trying the east face, but strong, gusty winds and cold temps prevented us from doing so. Hoped to climb James as well, but the continuous plume of wind swept snow flying off the summit held us back! Great views from this very unique peak. | |

| August 2001 Went up the East face with Aleksa. Love the fact that it drains into 3 watersheds but even more impressive is the close up of the east face of Mt. Stimson that you get from the top. | |
