Good views the whole way, but save energy for uphill hiking on the way back!
Started from Snowbank Road and hiked along the ridge - pretty fun, great views of Blue Lake from above and of course all the surrounding peaks. Enjoyed taking a picture of my tripod on Tripod Peak too :) But do save some energy for hiking uphill on the way back, you don't realize how much you descended in the first place until you're toiling uphill at the end of the hike in the mid-day sun...

Nice out and back from Snowbank Road. The trail was in good shape. Dusty but not hard. Good for kids. Also got Granite Peak just across from the parking area at the saddle.
Took my 9 & 7 year-old up Tripod from Snowbank Rd. The trailhead is where the road reaches the ridgeline, so you can see the view to the west. The trail runs straight south from the road. The trail is fairly easy to follow, though there were still a number of snowbanks to cross. Take sunblock, as there is virtually no shade! Also, take bug spray, because the mosquitoes were thick! The trail disappeared below the watchtower, so we just headed straight up the mountain. Be careful on the return trip, as there is a parallel trail that runs much further down from the ridge and has a lot of mud this time of year from all the snow melt. Great views in all directions! The hike was long (lots of breaks when hiking with a 7 year-old), but my boys did great.

Nice late season hike with some patchy snow to deal with. Still a good hike in a nice area. Started at the Blue Lake trailhead so I could visit the lake along the way. Trip Report

Trail run
Jogged and walked from the Snowbank road. Scenic. Took about an hour each way. Had a nice chat with the woman manning the fire lookout
I have climbed from Snowbank Road and from the south side as well. Both are nice day hikes (challenging though, not just a walk in the park). Beautiful views and highly recommended!
