SE Face  Sucess!

Working on strengthening an ankle, I headed straight up the southeastern face and found myself in low 5th terrain. Great scrambling, not so interesting a summit. Descended eastern slope and enjoyed throwing rocks on the frozen tarns. Great day with no other humans around.

southeast slope  Sucess!

Couldn't find the register, but the views were great. I'd definitely do it again; it'd be a great introductory off-trail scramble for those new to hiking.

Fresh snow!  Sucess!

Bill and I climbed the standard route from the Mays Lake trailhead. Yosemite got 4" of snow over night which created a beautiful setting. However, the southwestern peak was a bit dicey on wet rock. The northern summit was no problem.

Climbed this peak as part of a 3-fer outing weekend along with Johnson Peak and Tioga Peak.

Both summits  Sucess!

With George N . First snow of the season and the spicier west summit made this otherwise dull peak worth the hike. The views were spectacular.

From May Lake   Sucess!

Tagged both summits and scrambled most of the knife ridge between the two. This ridge is quite a good scramble. No register found on either summit.

South Slope  Sucess!

The road off the highway to the trailhead had opened just days before. Folks haven't wasted any time as there were a number of tents set up around May Lake. While the trail around the lake is well warn, once you depart it, you're on an old, rarely used trail to the saddle. From the saddle to the top I'd occasionally run into a cairn but generally the trip is cross country up slabs, boulders, and patches of snow.

May Lake  Sucess!

Nice mellow outing from May Lake.

On the Topo there is a sharp right (east) turn in the trail leading out of May Lake- this turn is actually a signed junction and a once maintained trail leads north from there. This trail brings you to a saddle directly beneath Tuolumne. From the saddle it just a straightforward jaunt up to the summit (There are cairns marking the route but they are pretty unnecessary)

Didn't see a survey marker or registry on the summit.

Pics and commentary are here.

Use trail from May Lake   Sucess!

Tagged both NE and SW high points. Didn't find a register. The road to May Lake trailhead is still closed, and I had to start from Tioga Road, which added two boring miles to the route each way. The road will allegedly be opened before the end of June 2012.

Great View of High Country  Sucess!

Nice loop starting from Tenaya Lake. Murphy's Creek up to the 10 Lakes Trail. Meandered to the summit(s) from the NNW.

I didn't find a register on either peak.

Quick trip in the morning up from May Lake trailhead before heading down into the valley that afternoon. Nice views of northern Yosemite.

From May Lake TH  Sucess!

First hike this summer season due to an ankle injury in May earlier this year. Left the bay area around 4am, drove straight to May Lake trailhead. Missed the trail that forks off the main one, ended up going too far east which forced me to do some off trail scrambling. Linked back up with the trail near the summit. Could not find the summit register on any of the summits. Camped at Mono Lake that evening.

Flying solo on this adventure, had some time to kill before work. Up and down in 2 hours, 30 minutes. Thoroughly enjoyed the views.

South Slope with Knife Edge Variation  Sucess!

None of us expected much out of this peak, but it turned out to be really excellent. We accidentally stumbled upon a fantastic knife edge ridge traverse (with fun class 3-4 scrambling and big exposure) on the way. Very nice!
