Two old friends

This 1972 pic shows my friend Jerry Watt and my trusty tent of 30 years, a Stephenson 2 model. I used it as recently as 2005 on He/She Devil but it finally was too worn out to continue on and due to some ripping of fabric, it had to be retired. What an amazing tent that one was, never a complaint and always so easy to get along with. I replaced it with an REI quarter dome and that has been working well but it doesn't have the spaciousness of that Stephie, RIP. If a piece of equipment can be a friend, that tent certainly was.

My 3R

At first glance I thought that was my Stephenson 3R. Mine was going strong until I tried some preventive maintenance: I renewed the coating on the nylon. Bad move. I left it out 3 days in August sun to cure, but didn't dust it, and when I unpacked it next, it peeled! RIP.
