Wrong couloir  Sucess!

I went the couloir east of the "correct" one, but it worked out okay. Descended the correct one for a quick morning jaunt. Trip report.

S Ridge  Sucess!

Up the S Ridge. We did a steep descending traverse down the loose S slopes to the avalanche gully. The glissade was fun! If we had our axes we would have descended the gully from much higher. With Kerry.

Where's the trail?  Sucess!

Great day overall! Having said that, where the hell is the trail? I didn't find Roach's description overly helpful. There are use trails everywhere within a quarter mile of the TH. Anyway, I just bushwhacked and made a straightline up the hill with plenty of deadfall and cliff bands. I never found the trail going up or coming down. Once above treeline it's a piece of cake.

South slopes/ridge  Sucess!

nice hike with Duchess, interesting bush whacking on the way up, weather co-operated although we could not see all 14ers from the summit since it was cloudy and drizzling rain and snow on and off…. Duchess did great. Got two organic chicken steaks after this one….

Steep grass  Sucess!

Very steep, short but time-consuming slog. Appropriately named.

Spring climb  Sucess!

Snow is melting fast, we were able to pick one of the snow lines from bottom of the gully all the way to the top, great views, no complaints! Blue bird day, no wind, 50° on top!

Lackawanna  Sucess!

Five 14ers.com members and I climbed Lackawanna Peak today. We climbed the south couloir.

With the current conditions, Lackawanna was much, much easier than Bull Hill (which was climbed the day before). After ~100 yards of postholing with snowshoes, the couloir was in perfect condition. The route was pretty fast, very direct, and fairly easy.

We had some pretty good conditions for glissading, but we would punch through in places, so you couldn't do a continuous glissade. Still, it was a quick trip down.

It was a good climb.

En route to French  Sucess!

S Fork Lk TH and NW slopes route up Lackawanna. Then over to Casco and on to French via Frasco BM. Descent into basin to E of Casco-Frasco Col from about half way down to col from Frasco BM (loose red gravel; perfect for descending), and back down to TH. A wonderful ridge-y loop. Nothing beyond 2+.

South gully  Sucess!

Nice snow climb up the gully to the south from CO 82. Enjoyable mountain, tougher than the stats indicate.

South slopes in Winter  Sucess!

Beautiful day to climb some snow free south slopes on another Sawatch centennial. No wind and warm temps. Clouds started rolling in for this next storm on the drive home. 3500 vertical in 1.75 miles each way. Pretty steep but got up in 2 hours!

Lack of wanna  Sucess!

I sorta started from the Upper Lake Creek TH, and kinda had the South Slopes route in mind. But I didn't stick with any plan. I just went where I wanted. I ended up following the (pretty dry) gully up to, oh about 12k. Then, turned RIGHT and hit that ridge before following it over to Lackawanna. I came down the true "South Slopes" route - at least for a while. I made my way back to my tracks up the gully and back out. Did a little post-holing and slipped a couple of times, but didn't take snowshoes. Wore microspikes a bit. Conditions were grand. First calendar winter centennial - and solo (with dog).

Up the NW Ridge, down the South Ridge  Sucess!

We ascending up the NW ridge across Pt 13660, then descending via the South Ridge. NW ridge was full of snow, much of it steep and hard-pan. South ridge was pretty loose / talus and sand. Doing this peak as a circuit route this time of year, with still-heavy snow-pack, was like doing two very different mountains in two different seasons in one day.

Route Climbed: Northwest Ridge  Sucess!

This was a fun bushwack off of Independence Pass! The "trail" is very, very faint don't rely on it...bring a map!

Via Casco's Ridge  Sucess!

For basically just a lump, Steph and I made this piece of crap as hard as one could make it, not intentionally. Hiked up Lackawanna Gulch, did a lot of traversing and downclimbing the far ridge before we gained the ridge we needed below Casco then remembered we had plans we needed to keep.
Scrambled the ridge over to Lackawanna (so as not to waste the day) and bushwhacked the west slope back to the TH.
Long day.

finally!  Sucess!

never heard of anyone NOT summiting lackawanna, but it took me four tries in winter to get up this SOB!

finally made it by prodding around the gully on the south slopes before cutting over to finish along the south ridge. the postholing and weather were nowhere near as horrible as they've been in the past. that made a big difference.
