wheeeee !  Sucess!

had wanted to do this one awhile but everyone i tried to recruit was a sissy. "its too long of a day. waaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh." they all said. i'll leave out names in order to shield the guilty, but you know who you are. i made it a much longer day than it needed to be. first, i approached via another rather long canyon to hit iron wash just at the start of the narrows. then i moseyed thru enjoying the endless pools on a hot august day. about 100 or 200 yards or so from the end of the narrows it started to rain. hard. thunder, lightning, the works. spectacular. probably i should have been more concerned, but i wasn't. escape was not hard if the water would start to rise, but i never thought of the possibility of being struck by lightning and maybe should have been concerned w/ that. at any rate it was by then near dark and once out i was treated to views of epic lightning clashes cloud to cloud and cloud to earth lighting up the san rafael reef in the waning light. words can not describe how archaic and raw it felt to experience that first hour or so once it started to rain. but after that it was just wet and annoying. then in the dark i made a wrong turn and wound up having to hike an extra 8 miles or so to get back to camp. it was worth it !
