I normally look a bit more presentable than this. But, we got caught in flashflooding coming off the Ouachita Trail and this was the result. Some folks tell me that may be because a distant relative of mine, Pierre Dorion, aided the Lewis and Clark Expedition. My youngest son (Curtis) and I have set the goal to visit all the U.S. national parks (41 of 58 done). We love to backpack and paddle. He's also a rock climber, though I limit myself to letting gravity do the work (rappel and belay for him). We're both extremely active in Scouting, and many of our outdoor adventures have been with fellow Scouts and Scouters. Each year Curtis and I take a 3-4 week trip by ourselves. This is true quality time during which we can pursue our outdoor adventures. In addition to all of that, I'm also an avid amateur astronomer, and amateur photographer. My 2006 SP "Done" List: Wrote a trip report for my 2005 Philmont Trek (DONE!), wrote a mountain page for High Dune in Great Sand Dunes NP (DONE!), wrote a canyon page for Black Canyon of the Gunnison (DONE!), wrote an article on taking better pictures (SORT OF DONE!), put together a list of U.S. national parks (DONE!), wrote a canyon page for Redwood Canyon in Kings Canyon NP, (DONE!), revisited Charon's Garden and then took over the unmaintained SP page for that area (DONE--with Bub Montanus!). 2007 Activities: Visited my mom and dad in Chula Vista, then we were off to Yosemite, Redwood, Lassen Volcanic, Crater Lake, Great Basin and Canyonlands national parks. Wrote up a route page for the Santa Elena Canyon Trail (DONE!). 2008 Activities: This year our vacation was pushed into December, so while we didn't visit any national parks, we did some playing in the snow in the Laguna Mountains near San Diego, and visited a snow-covered White Sands National Monument. Heavy snowfall kept us from our planned visit to Utah. My 2008 SP "Done" List: Took over and reworked the Grand Canyon National Park page (DONE!) and helped Truchas finish the Wichita Mountains page (DONE!). Wrote up a route page for Elk Mountain Trail in Charon's Garden Wilderness (DONE!). Wrote up a mountain page on Bat Cave Mountain (DONE!). Helped Alan Ellis update the Sunset Peak mountain page and Sunset Peak Traverse route page (DONE and DONE!). 2009 Activities: Utah! We visited Arches National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Capitol Reef National Park, Canyonlands National Park and Saguaro National Park. We also hiked Mount Lemmon near Tucson.
