A Few Words: In Memory of Brutus Of Wyde.....Dear Friend And Mentor On June the 12th, 2009, the world lost a beautiful and vibrant soul in an auto accident as he was heading out to climb in his "playground".....the Sierra Nevada. Bruce Bindner (affectionately know as "Brutus" by close friends), was a man filled with passion and wisdom which he gave out unconditionally to those around him. He had two loves in his life: his beautiful wife Em (aka 'Nurse Ratchet') and his love for obscurities in the mountains. If any man was a shining example on how a man REALLY loves a woman, it was Bruce. As his brother, I witnessed first hand how much he cared for Em....his body language and his words were so in touch with her and they shared the love equally. Em was his soul partner and climbing partner and they surmounted many challenges throughout their time together....true love! He found peace and understanding when he had her in his arms. Bruce also found peace and refreshment when he was amongst the towering spires and ominous granite walls. It was his home and he decorated it with careful thought and creativity. If you've ever had the chance to experience a Bruce Bindner route, you left with complete appreciation of the art he "painted" upon the granite canvas.....or you left with your tail between your legs. Humble was Brutus. A man filled with compassion and deep appreciation for his friends who climbed with him or simply shared a beer, which he always had at the ready for you! Not enough can be said about 'Brutus Of Wyde'.....he was simply a class act and an "original gangsta"! For me, I'm simply grateful to have had a friend who truly knew me and loved me for who I am. What a friend should be. I will miss you my friend and I will always love you. Be on your journey. I'll join you when the time comes, waiting for your booming voice to say, "Let's go climb."
