via the northeast slope  Sucess!

Tried reaching the standard southwest TH and it’s no longer possible with a passenger car. I drove to the Colorado/ New Mexico border instead and accessed the area via the Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument and went up the northeast slope. There was a cairned herd path for a long stretch of the climb. Two and a half hours to the top.

SW Ridge  Sucess!

Did this with Nicole after spending Memorial Weekend with family in Taos. Was able to follow some intermittent game trails here and there. No views at the actual summit, but sweet views from the slopes of the peak. Reminded me of a much smaller version of Navajo Mtn, UT. There is an amazing campsite at the summit rim, south of the highpoint, complete with fire ring and everything. 4 hours ctc at a leisurely pace.

SW Ridge  Sucess!

A wonderful day out with Sarah. Lots of prickly stuff and a beautiful mountain as it rises out of the high desert like an island. Surprised to see a register at the summit!

SW Ridge  Sucess!

What a beautiful day! Sunny, 60 degrees F, wow! Lovely mountain, dynamite views along the route (even if the views at the top are limited). Fun and easy drive in the Jeep to parking. Stuck to the ridge proper on the ascent; dropped into the drainage on the descent. A bit of a social/summit trail is forming. Steaks in Fort Garland afterward!
