Velebit Alpenglow

Velebit (Paklenica area, South Velebit) burning at sunset. On the left is Veliki Golic (1265m) while behind it, occupying central part of the shot, is Viserujna (1632m). It is in the Kapa (cap), typical cloud which sits on the mountain when Bura wind blows. Black scar on the right is canyon of Mala Paklenica. Because seaboard side of Velebit is facing W-SW it is often painted in red at sunset. This one was simply magical! Photo: Aleksandar Gospic

Beautiful

Another great picture of yours and one I enjoy very much. I really think you've captured the colors well.

Thank You Dean! This sunset was really perfect, Velebit burned with such vivid colors that I was amazed. I’ve seen so many reddish displays of mountain but this one ranks among top few ever. Just 2 hours prior we had blizzard up there but once we descended and got away from the mountain cloud broke up on the west and this spectacle was created. I had hard time making sharp pictures because Bura wind from the mountain was gusting up to 100km/h and car was shaking constantly like I was on rodeo horse. I lowered the window little bit and took shots through it. Outside was impossible to stand still. It was also interesting to observe how Bura is blowing off huge clouds of snow from peak tops.

Bio sam na Velebitu prvi put prije dvije godine i bilo je izvanredno. Od sjevernog Velebita do Paklenice, uglavnom grebenom, za nekih 7 dana. Sjajno iskustvo. Jasno mi je zasto nosis taj nick... :) A ova slika govori vise nego hiljadu rijeci. Super!

Hvala justahiker! Sto da ti kazem, Velebit je moja zivotna preokupacija i ljubav :-) Drago mi je da si prosao VPP jer to je prekrasan uvid u Velebit i dobar pocetak jer ima toga... :-)

another reason to hurry back to Croatia.

allready "stole" one of your marvelous pictures, showing Biokovo in winterclothes, and this is another shot in the eye !
(its now my desktop screen between work)
