I see pictures of via ferrata in Europe, I think that if we had some in the US that more people would become interested in climbing and mountains. I look forward to climbing on one someday.

I read in a climbing magazine that they are starting via ferratas on the east coast - Nelson Rocks via ferrata, West Virginia. I love those climbs, you can go alone, and feel very safe.

I would like to try this. I saw some of this in Europe in the late 70's was never able to try it.

These iron ways are all over the Alps - 100s of those, probably thousands...You can buy special via ferrata system with breaks, so when you clip and fall, it does not hurt your back. And it does work well, since I did fall several times a 3-4 meters, and felt no pain. It was actually like sliding - fun. You can do it also with a rope if you have a climbing partner.

We have a iron way in Telluride. Better get on it before the forest service lawyers take it down??

I don't think that will happen. I hope not!

We have another longer and more primitive one on the other side of the valley. On the falls wall.
I am no expert on the forest service and it's policy. However as popular as the one above the pipeline climbing area is. (4/5 groups per day in summer) There is no permit for it. So get on it while still fun.

Thanks, I was planning to hit both via ferratta's in Telluride pretty soon - just there is so little time.

A whole lot of fun. Pleased to see in the photos, the safety lines and double slings - that's what spacewalkers use !
