| Portal....began the 97 switchbacks under alpen-glow on Whitney....blood red sunrise. Gorgeous. Met a climber going up the switchbacks who was on his way to Mt. Muir so joined him and we examined the summit block and ascended as per Secor's route. Thrilling! | |

| Beautiful weather, got to see the moonlight on the Whitney crest on the way up. Some doubt that this is all 3rd class.... Was fortunate enough to pick up a permit at the last minute! | |

| Looked this one over for a long time after climbing Whitney, Keeler and Crooks. Maybe it was the wet rock, maybe it was the routes we looked at but, decided against this one with no protection. Even dry I'd rate this short climb at class 4 - climbing with exposure. | |

| I guess its technically accepted as a 14er on its own, so its worth noting. But as a 5-10 minute detour from the Whitney Main trail, its nothing to brag about. | |
