I like rock climbing, but by July or August the ice addiction is probably going to be enough to make me want to climb just about anything blue and frozen ...

Amen! I guess we just have to keep driving further north in search of the ice as we move into summer... dont forget about those cool alpine ice routes in the sierra on north pal, mendel, etc for the summer...



you were up at shasta last summer, werent you? i think i saw you climb the hotlum glacier. there is an 700' ice gully up there just right of the hotlum headwall. you should check that one out in june or july...

Definitely, but it's anyone's guess how the Sierra alpine ice season will be this year .. I guess we'll see.



Yep, climbed the gully left of the headwall last August with guides after toproping some crevasses (about 900' or so of 55 degree alpine ice, with a bit of water ice at the top). Will have to look into the right gully - I had no idea it came into condition so early.
