Route from Camps 2 to 3 up the Lhotse Face, across
the yellow band and up the Geneva Spur to the South Col. Get an idea of the scale with the climbers just to the right of the blue line at the page bottom.

Voted 10/10 | Hi Alan,
impressive shot, I have not seen to many good pictures of this angle. Lhotse west face looks extremely steep, more than I expected. Is this partially caused by using a tele lens or is it really that steep ?
Your shot of the yellow band looks less steep,
certainly wide angle or normal lens used. Still the yellow band itself looks really nasty. I assume ropes for jumaring in place there ?

Hasn't voted | Hi Peter,
Thanks. I took this shot with only a 3X optical zoom on a digital camera so it is pretty accurate.
The Face ranges from 30 to 60 degrees but, believe it or not, actually has some small "bumps" -like huge mogals on a ski run - on the lower section below C3.
It does flatten around the yellow band but the band itself is a 100 meters or so around 30 degrees. Not bad really.
And yes the entire face is fixed and you use a jumar and stayed clipped in with 'biners as well. People die falling here most every year. | | Posted Jun 18, 2005 10:43 am |
