 This sign requests hiker not...
This sign requests hiker not descend the scree/talus gullies into the South Fork Basin due to the erosion it causes (July 30, 2005). However, many parties choose to do this anyway because retracing their steps over Redcloud is an unattractive choice. But don't fret - there is a third and best option: complete your Redcloud/Sunshine loop by descending Sunshine's Northwest Ridge (seen across the valley). This route provides an equally pleasant descent or ascent on well-packed, solid talus; allows you to bag Colorado's 299th tallest peak – Sundog; will take you away from the crowds on the standard routes; and minimizes the damage to the environment.
