This is an excellent shot, Nelson. I can't figure out what route it is either... Love the shadow and light.

Thanks it was late afternoon and the setting sun was turning the rocks vivid red. This guy was soloing this intimidating route, which drew a crowd to watch his progress.

I wonder how much pressure a crowd watching adds to free soloing. Great shot BTW.

What a great shot Nelson! Fantastic contrast between shadow and dark and the color, doesn't matter where or who is on it! ;-)

Thanks very much Kenzo. The most valued praise comes from the master. Today is my birthday so this is a nice present. (Yes, I did change the age on my SP profile page!)

Photo note: it was fantastic evening light. I put on a 85-200mm zoom lens and tried a few different settings and compositions before choosing on this one. I thought those towers in the lower left corner were good to include in the frame. Thanks again.

Nelson, this is a stellar climbing shot. It delivers the dynamics and solitude, which is what I'd associate with free soloing. I'd love to get a print of this. Maybe we can trade? :)

P.S. Happy belated birthday!

Thanks very much Misha, I'm sure we can work out a trade! I need a better scanner and printer first, though...

P.S. How did you know? Is there a way to monitor when SP members update the age on their profile? :)

Sure, just let me know. I print my stuff through Mpix.com right now, using their Kodak Endura Metallic paper. It turns out great. Pick a photo of mine that you'd like printed and the size... You can see a better collection of my shots here:

As for your birthday, the answer is much more simple. Scroll down to your reply to Kenzo :)

I just took the Mpix.com tour. Looks very nice and great prices. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll continue this in an E-mail to you in a day or so. My scanner may not deliver the quality required for a larger size print. But, I'll be happy to do a swap with you!

Regarding my reply to Kenzo, see what happens at this age. Memory is the second thing to go!

John Climber5 stars shot!!

Nelson, What a shot !! You come to the level of the professionals with such an image. Good light, good moment, super composition, lines are just going to the right direction and, indeed, the small rocks left under gave depth to the picture...

Do the guys of the big climbing equipment brands know about this picture?

And the guys of the SP, when are you going to create the 5 stars rate? This shot goes over the 4 stars!

Thanks very much John! I really appreciate the compliment. I love diagonal lines and that shadow completely caught my attention. It was a lucky moment.

I've thought that a good photo comes from 50% being in the right place at the right time, and 50% knowing that you are in the right place at the right time. In this case it clicked.

Thanks very much! If you really do want it on your computer let me know what size your screen resolution is, and I'll be happy to E-mail mail you a larger image.

AndinistalocoHere are your four stars -

Voted 10/10

and I hope that even if you DO know who it was, you don't say. For - as I was told by a friendly ranger, after getting caught myself - soloing is punishable by a hefty fine in the Garden!

Or at least it used to be....

Great shot!
