Thankfully the ugly weather seen here cleared out quickly and we enjoyed a beautiful fall day in the Rockies. Rugged escarpments reminiscent of Utah grace the ridge between Apache and Shoshoni Peaks in the IPW. Remnants of the Isabelle Glacier can be seen. A classic snow climbing route for Apache Peak is started from this "glacier." This view is from the basin beneath Navajo Peak before ascending the standard Airplane Gully route. Awesome, rugged country that defies the undeserved reputation that Colorado's mountains are old, soft mounds of rubble (which is a description that better suits me than the mountains)! Hasn't voted | That's some rugged scenery! Aaron, what's the SP policy about posting Google Earth 3D images of mountains?
Thanks,

Hasn't voted | Hey, thanks, Trevor. I have the same angle without clouds later in the day where you can see more detail, but the dramatic mood of this moment was more striking. Thanks for the comment.
Posting Google's stuff on SP is probably a no-no, but that is my immidiate response, too. According to SP copyright policy, confering with Google for permission and then stating as much in your text is required, providing Google does indeed grant such permission. It's likely copyrighted material and this gets into sticky territory as far as SP is concerned. It's sounds similar in scope to posting copyrighted photos from other sources, which we've gone round and round about on SP.
SP member Climbwild recently ran into a can of worms by posting copyrighted material by another source that suposedly granted him permission. But the party had a change of heart when he saw how Climbwild posted it-a big picture on his page. Then he had a change of heart, went on an ego trip and gave Climbwild all sorts of grief. The photos were eventually removed.
The best bet, if possible, and to keep SP out of legal trouble, is to provide a link to the image. | | Posted Sep 15, 2005 11:39 am |
