Part of the extension from the Napau Trail leading to the Pu'u O'o active vent (the mountain in the distance). Steam and sulphurous clouds in the distance mark the active lava flows in the area. The gnarled rock formations are evidence of an older flow that swep through a forest that once stood here. Cinders and ash cover the ground. This shot was taken not far from the end of the trail. - February 2004.
