1000PksMiddle Chute with Trees

The middle chute, with the trees at the base, has a nice, steep, scree, use trail up into it, from the Hut. Low 2, if that. The HP is a slight ways left, a rock hop. Be careful descending, as the novices on such routes can easily slip and fall down. I'd suggest sitting down directly on your rump (assuming sand or non-puncturing objects below), or if possible, shift your weight quickly atop a firm, standing foot. See Castle Peak Photo for the result of carelessness or plain bad luck. With shorts, don't try to turn inward to land on your knees or legs. Use clothing to protect yourself.

I was careful to downclimb on rubbly, loose class 2, yesterday, but sitting if necessary, and keeping my center of gravity low. Not even a scratch!

The daring may intimidate you by hopping and sliding down the rubble, but if you are not similarly limber and quick, even a broken leg can result. The good peak climber is not a show-off, for dangerous stunts, to beginners! The agility and talent of a good climber is developed by years of experience! Heed not the entreaties of malicious people, in, say, a local enviro group, to get you hurt, lost, or killed! You sign their agreement to hold them harmless, thus, by them, giving them free license to do such!

There are good climbers and good groups, but watch out! That there may be a club's long history of leading groups safely enough into the wilderness, does not mean subsequent leading will be of like mind!

Hi, I actually ascended the far right chute and descended the south side of the peak on my way to Tinker Knob. On the approach to the peak every chute looks somewhat ominous, but once you're on the peak they're actually pretty easy. I can imagine one would have to be careful descending the north face due to the loose talus. You could definitely get injured!
