The view south from Cache Col... [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
The view south from Cache Col...
The view south from Cache Col includes Hurry Up Peak on the left, Spider Mountain, and Mt. Formidable. On the following day the Ptarmigan Traverse route passes through Spider-Formidable Col at the top of the Middle Cascade Glacier, which is right of center. Tonight's camp beside Kool Aid Lake is visible in this photo, however the lake was still frozen over at this time during the 1999 summer due to the record snowfall that occurred the previous winter. The summer of 1999 was unusual in that nearly every day there were violent thunderstorms. The thunderheads were starting to form in this photo. We kept hoping that these storms would cease, however by the third day we were convinced that the trend would continue, so we abandoned our attempt and backtracked to our cars at the Cascade Pass TH. August 1999.
