February 1986, wow, that was the exact year and month when I made my first turns down Mammoth Mountain. Seems like the olden days. That was an El Nino year with a huge snowpack, we skiied 'till July 4th that year!



P.S. Nice Avy, looks like chair 23 is almost buried!

It was a big year - I skied the High Route the second week of May that spring.



For an idea of scale on this slide, check out the snowcat between the bottom terminal and first tower. The avy ran several hundred yards down St Anton, out of view here, and deposited around 60 feet of debris.
