Traversing the "Zlijat...

Traversing the "Zlijat Prelez" saddle in May 2005. The avalanche risk is still pretty high, so under similar conditions always follow routes on the ridges, even if it's windy. Maljovica was the site of the worst mountaineering disaster in Bulgaria, when 11 climbers died in an avalanche.

Did you know...

Did you know something about the local names? "Zlijat Prelez" means "the evil cross level", the peak on right (not seen here) is called The Evil Tooth and the springs that issue from there to South - The Evil Springs :)
This is probably the steepest area in Rila - the highest mountain on the Bolkans.
