Desert Sunflower & Telescope Peak [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Desert Sunflower & Telescope Peak
I thought this was a nice shot of Telescope Peak which is in the distance. Of course the focal point of this pic is not the peak, but the Desert Sunflower, but the contrast between flower and snow-covered peak is a good one, I think! This was taken in March 2005. The flowers were amazing in Death Valley that spring!

I appreciate your humility, but I'll say it IS a nice shot, a very nice one.

By the way, I read your Kelso Dunes page and was disappointed by the comments made by the low voter, and I agree with the points you made in response. In fact, I am going to do a Eureka Dunes page in the next few days, and I will use similar reasons as yours for posting it. I hope you'll see and enjoy the page.

Thanks for your comments. As I recall this was one of the first shots I posted to Summitpost and I wasn't sure if it was a shot people would appreciate. Glad to see people like it!

It was also disappointing to me to get a low vote, and not for the lack of quality of the page. And I will be sure to visit your Eureka Dunes page!

Right now, I'm leaning toward posting Eureka as an Area/Range page rather than a Mountain/Rock since, unlike the Great Sand Dunes in CO, there aren't any named dunes I know of, and since the SP Create Page defines Mountain/Rock as peaks, crags, walls and boulders, clearly knocking dunes from contention (but that gets us back to whether a dune is a peak-- I guess the lack of a specific name is the basis of my decision). However, I still find it extremely petty what that person did-- she could have registered her complaint in other ways rather than using her vote weight in a bullying way just to enforce her own preferences. And you're right-- it clearly wasn't about the quality of the page. Small, very small.

Not all landforms fall into such neat categories - I think it would be fine to do Eureka Dunes as an area/range or peak - or maybe a custom object?

Well, it's up now, right or wrong-- as an Area/Range and also attached to your Death Valley page.

I applaude your depth perception skills on this shot. One of the best here on Summitpost!

A little bit more brightness and contrast would be nice. Superb photo though.

I generally don't manipulate my photos, that's the scene as it was in real life, but thanks for the comment!

"I am in love with this world. I have nestled lovingly in it. I have climbed its mountains, roamed its forests, sailed its waters, crossed its deserts, felt the sting of its frosts, the oppression of its heats, the drench of its rains, the fury of its winds, and always have beauty and joy waited upon my goings and comings."   --John Burroughs
