Lava oozes from beneath the...
Lava oozes from beneath the tenuous surface east of the end of the Chain of Craters Road in Volcano National Park. The ground is obviously hot, and getting too close to the lava risks your very life, as the ground could collapse from beneath you. Good boots are recommended to shield your feet from the heat and to hold up against the glass like lava, which you must cross as much as two miles worth to see a sight such as this. Obviously, seeing it at night is recommended, so bring a headlamp, and plan on plenty of company. At least you won't get lost! This lava is the newest rock on the planet...something you don't see every day! Hawaii Volcano National Park, 2005.

I wish I could have gone out far enough to see the lava that close. Amazing picture!
