Elbert's Moonshadow [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Elbert's Moonshadow
Moonlit mountains and the last colors of sunset, as seen from the summit of Mt. Elbert, 14,440 feet, Sawatch Range, February 12, 2006. The Elk Range stretches along the horizon. Photo ©2006 by Jack Brauer. I took this one with a large format camera so the detail in the 4x5 inch slide is pretty stunning! www.widerange.org

Thanks for your compliments! This was such an epic evening up there. I spent 3 hours on the summit!

Looks awesome. Did you use a grad nd for this? The white mid tone on the mountains is perfet compared to the sky light!

hi. No, no ND grad here. It was a fullmoon night after sunset, and I just waited until the sky darkened to about the same brightness as the moonlit mountains, then I took a 6 minute exposure. The sky turned out looking brighter than in real life - like it actually looked about 15 - 30 minutes earlier.

Thanks for the compliment! It was cold that night, but no wind, so I was cozy in my down jacket.

Hi Josh, see my post above... this was a six minute exposure which brought out the blues more than the human eye could actually see at the time (more like it looked a bit earlier in the night).
