Rim Overlook at Capitol Reef [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Rim Overlook at Capitol Reef
Looking south from the Rim Overlook, the cultural visitor center of Capitol Reef, known as Fruita (for its many productive orchards) resides at the mouth of the Fremont River Canyon on the west side of the Reef. This view looks down the length of the Reef, a great barrier of sandstone spires, domes and pinnacles that extends over 100 miles south to Lake Powell. In the foreground on the left is the mesa top that houses the "invisible" Cohab Canyon, the Frying Pan Trail and many unknown and secret treasures for intrepid explorers to discover. It is a 5.5 mile round trip hike to reach this view, which passes through spectacular scenery for the entire length. Capitol Reef is the place for exploration and adventure! Fall, 2005.
