A hole in the clouds as we approached the turn-off to Nambe Lake threw the shadows of aspen before us. The ominous atmosphere produced by the rapid descent of the sun and the increasing number of clouds lit a fire under our butts. It was after 5 pm and we were still 3.5 miles from the trailhead.
