Eastern ski approaches to the summit [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Eastern ski approaches to the summit
The red line marks the usual long (often described as boring) approach to the summit of the Roter Kogel from the north and east - ascending the Fotschertal to the Potsdamer Hütte, and then westward to gain the Widdersberg Schafalm. The green line marks a more fun way to get down, as it has moderately steep slopes to ski, followed by a tight path in forests along the stream. Eventually a switchbacking road is gained and followed to the valley floor.

On our day there, all the ski tracks went that way so it was easy to find. If you are encased in a cloud, it might be wise to return along your tracks instead.

The green line could be used as an ascent route as well.
