The upper East Ridge and East... [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
The upper East Ridge and East...
The upper East Ridge and East Face of Fortress Mountain on September 24, 2000. You want to stay on the ridge crest as close as possible and aim for a 12-foot high class 4 chimney (visible as a black crack at upper right). It is then easy scrambling above this chimney. It is a mistake to venture out on the face. Trust me, don't go there--very loose, very steep, very sketchy. Phew!

"As an adolescent I aspired to lasting fame, I craved factual certainty, and I thirsted for a meaningful vision of human life - so I became a scientist. This is like becoming an archbishop so you can meet girls."   --M. Cartmill
