The west slope of Buck...
The west slope of Buck Mountain as seen from near the Berge-Buck saddle on August 18, 2002. The pool mentioned in Section 5 of the West Shoulder Route is just out of sight below. The precipitous 8,528-ft north summit can be seen peeking to the left of the 8,254-ft west summit. Section 6 ascends the pumiced west slopes shown here and aims for the steep snow patch just below the west summit and then continues on to the skyline closely right of the west summit. The 8,316-ft southwest summit is peeking at top right.
