why not go up roell creek or better yet approach from middle mountain road?

Agreed! Both are good options. Or, at least, I'd like to think so. Roell Creek is likely never visited and may involve serious bushwacking, as we know Irving Creek does. But that doesn't mean it's not a viable route. The Middle Mountain approach would be a nice trip too.
