Salt Creek Canyon [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Salt Creek Canyon
Salt Creek Canyon is seen from the Slickrock Trail in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. This view is looking north toward the Island in the Sky district. This hike is only 2.5 miles long, but the views are terrific. The hike can also be extended in any number of variations, which is highly recommended! Spring, 2006.

That view makes a fantastic photo; I've taken one just like it. But the canyon you are looking at is Big Spring Canyon just above where it merges with Little Spring Canyon. They don't merge into Salt Creek Canyon unitl quite a way down from there.

By the way, another great hike (much longer) is to park near where the road crosses Little Spring Canyon and go down into it and follow it down into Salt Creek Canyon. Eventually you get to a dry fall that is impassible without a rope and some climbing skills, but if you can get past it I'm told that you can get back out to a jeep road somewhere down near the Colorado River.
