Radek, This peak is on my list. We should do it sometime. It is VERY intimidating looking for a 5.6 peak. That ridge stared at me the whole time while on Pingora....begging me. We opted out after thinking we didn't have enough experience to tackle the traverses.

Alan,

We'd really like to go back there (tried Gannett last summer) to do some technical rock climbs. The page you posted on the Cirque of Towers really poured some fuel onto the fire - we really want to climb some of those beauties! The Wolf's Head ridge in this photo DOES look intimidating. The tough part for us right now is the lack of time off!!! Really been scratching our heads trying to figure out how to maximize the cilmbing with the few days off that we do have. I haven't checked your page or the books yet, but how long is the usual/shortest approach to the Cirque?

Thanks.

Radek

The shortest approach is through the Big Sandy opening/trailhead with about an 8 mile easy hike. The first 6 miles only gain 600 ft! Therefore, it is a very popular place in the summer. Best to go after Labor Day when all the bugs, people, and most of the bad weather are gone. I'll do Gannett too....just let me know when you want to do either. I'm thinking '05....this summer is booked.

Thanks for the approach info. Alan.

Yeah, it's not looking like a realistic plan for us this summer either (unfortunately!). Would very much like to have a full week for another Wind Rivers trip and spend at least three or four days just in the Cirque (Pingora really looks very appealing!).

McDermott, all of your Wolf's Head shots have been terrific--thanks for submitting them.
