| Avalanche on Willis Wall | [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ] | |||||||||||
The first of three large avalanches on Willis Wall which we observed during our 1.5 days of Liberty Ridge approach/climb, in addition to several small sloughs and nearly continuous rockfall. The sense of scale is deceptive, since the wall rises nearly 4000 vertical feet above the glacier in the foreground. About 20 seconds after this photo was taken we felt the airblast and sting of snow from the dying cloud. Photo submitted for the Liberty Ridge, July 2006 trip report.
