Mount Victoria Ice Fall [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Mount Victoria Ice Fall
Mount Victoria's Northeast Face. What appears to be a waterfall in this photo is actually ice fall. These booming avalanches are common during the summer climbing months in this region. I find the constant show entertaining as long as I am not climbing below ice at the moment.

On ascent of the East Ridge, Alpine II, 5.4, of Unnamed Peak on the Continental Divide in Banff and Yoho National Parks, Canadian Rockies, July 8, 2006.

""You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know.""   --Rene Daumal
