Two feet of rime ice! [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Two feet of rime ice!
Climbing Mauna Kea in March was no picnic! This summit altar to Pele (supposed goddess of volcanoes) was frosted over with 1-2 feet of rime ice!! Steady winds at 30 mph made it a cool day. Sitting behind this shelter eating my lunch, it wasn't too bad though.

The USGS summit benchmark is seen in the lower left hand corner of this picture.
