View S, as one travels from the Tummy to the Toe. To S are visible Griffith Peak (right) and Potosi (middle, far away).

| MoapaPk | dead trees? | |
Hasn't voted | I think you are referring to all the "dead" trees?
Those are bristlecone pines, and often they look more dead than alive -- there may be just one 4" strip of bark/cambium on a tree.
But yes, there have been fires up and down that ridge many times. I often find burned trees, probably from lightning strikes. | | Posted Jul 12, 2006 3:59 pm |

Voted 10/10 | Beautiful picture towards Griffith. Don't see as many taken from that side of the canyon. | | Posted Nov 22, 2007 1:03 am |

Hasn't voted | I've been on 3 different routes up the south side of Mummy (not the area near the typical scree) -- nice routes (though recently someone put fixed ropes over the most interesting spots). | | Posted Nov 22, 2007 5:10 pm |
