Summit Cornice [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Summit Cornice
The cornice that guards the top of the gully that descends from the summit of Powell Peak to the namesake lake. When approaching Powell Peak from McHenrys Notch, this is the view one gets after traversing under the east ridge. In late summer there may be very little snow in the gully, but the cornice is likely still there. The easiest way to the summit is to cross the gully and pass on the left of the cornice.

Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. July 2006.
